The Plunge to a New Creative Me

It finally happened. The Plunge took place. I dedicated the other room in my Condo to my painting.

Painting Studio
I also work on the coffee table in my living room as the television is there and I try to learn from YouTube videos on how to proceed with watercolour.

Watercolour is my choice from the very beginning. I love it as you can see on the walls of my Studio. There are two watercolour paintings I recently bought in the Toronto Art Show. It was done by one of the new artists whose work garnered a price in the show. She came from Iran and I thought it would be a great idea to support her.  She was in the show with her husband and little girl and to see them work as a couple sort of touched my heart so I bought two of her paintings. I thought it would inspire me to venture into my creative journey.

I watched many shows and learned from them. Because of this learning, I went and got the best brush I was willing to pay for given that I am on my first level. However, that did not stop me from getting a Level 2 or 3 brushes to affirm my commitment to improving my skill. I also got a better box of watercolours from the one I was using for some crafts. I was given before by our daughter a box of Winsor and Newton watercolours and I loved working with it.

The first attempt I did was to do some winter scenes. I love the snowfall on trees and the beauty of winter. I hate the cold but the scenery is special.

So here are my starting attempts.

Well, I have to work on my colours and am not too happy with the start but I kept on until I finished these two. It was a good practice. Here are the finished cards.

I learned to use only watercolour paper as the other card stock bent and I did not like it at all.

My colour mixing needs great improvement but these attempts gave me an idea of where I need to polish my skills. So, next time, I think my winter scene will be much better.

  1. Beautiful work Mary. I love the beauty of winter too. I used to paint a lot when I was in my teens. All the best as you venture deeper into this new found love of painting. Look forward to seeing more of your masterpieces!
